One of the greatest actors of his generation, Benicio Del Toro has been speaking to the guys over at Comic Book Movie about his upcoming role as The Collector in James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The thing is, the CHE star doesn’t really seem to have a clue on what he’s doing.

Del Toro said, “When someone calls you and say ‘I need you in my movie,’ it’s exciting. I like comic-book movies, and it’s totally new for me. My character is The Collector. I’ve never heard of him so I just started to research about him.”

Discussing his understanding of the character and the Marvel world, he added, “For example, they told you ‘Now you have to go in this restaurant and kill this person.’ And then you ask ‘Who? The blue haired girl, or the guy with the wig?’ And you don’t get the answer. And suddenly, you heard ‘Action!’ And you have to go along: so you shoot everywhere and they’ll find a solution for the final cut.”

Regardless of Del Toro’s geeky know-how, or lack thereof, Marvel’s space opera is shaping up to be pretty awesome right now. For those lucky ones of us out there who got to see the leaked trailer, how good did that look?! Ridiculously good is the correct answer.

As well as Del Toro, the impressive ensemble cast also features Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close and John C. frickin’ Reilly.

Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is currently on track for a 1st August, 2014 release.
