We kind of hoped that Warner Bros would get cold feet about their proposed reboot of the 1985 classic after news of it resurfaced to internet wide disdain last January. Seriously, is there a single fan of Joe Dante’s original movies that thinks this is a good idea? A Dante sanctioned GREMLINS 3, absolutely, but a CGI-overhaul of the beloved creations? Hell no. Though it’s a sad fact that those same fans are surplus to requirements in cases like these. The audiences that Warner Bros really need to pony up for tickets will likely have never heard of a Mogwai, let alone give a crap about the lost art of practical effects. Sigh. Anyhoo…

…Today brings more misery with the news that Seth Grahame-Smith is being eyed by the studio to produce, and possibly pen the script. Smith, for those of you who might be unfamiliar, is the wildly successful writer behind the novels PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES and ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER, before he upped sticks to Hollywood where he’s currently enjoying a lucrative screenwriting career. Teen show THE HARD TIMES OF RJ BERGER, DARK SHADOWS and an adaptation of his latter novel followed (all with varying degrees of success), and he’s currently attached to both THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot and BEETLEJUICE 2.

If we were in Smith’s shoes we’d politely decline Warner Bros’ offer, no matter how much cash they might be offering no good can come of this!

More news as we get it…
