Cult anime classic GHOST IN THE SHELL is due to make its Blu-ray debut this September, in a splendid limited edition steelbook edition, no less. While the film was made available on DVD via the 2.0 release, it deserved better.

The steelbook comes with a 24-page booklet that includes an interview with director Mamoru Oshii, an article about the original manga, and plenty more. Though a figure hasn’t been released regarding how many copies are included in this limited run, it’s going to be a sought after collectors’ item, topping many wish lists.

As AKIRA recently underwent the steelbook treatment, there may very well be more to follow. What anime classics do you believe deserve a swanky steelbook overhaul?
