It’s common practice in Hollywood for a classic work of literature to be the ‘basis’ for a film. But who would have thought that George Orwell’s 1984 would be the basis for a romantic drama?

That’s right. Orwell’s 1949 dystopian tale of a totalitarian government that controls not only how its populace lives, but how it thinks, and where falling in love is a criminal offence, has inspired a romantic drama that will star TWILIGHT’s Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult (WARM BODIES).

Sounds like a ‘must see’ so far! To be fair though, EQUALS, as the film will be titled, is written by Nathan Parker who was responsible for penning 2009’s excellent MOON. EQUALS director Drake Doremus, whose past work includes LIKE CRAZY and BREATHE IN, said the film is, “…about love in a world where love doesn’t exist anymore.”

Stewart has enthusiastically described the film as “a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion.” She also expressed trepidation about her role, saying, “But I told Drake, ‘Don’t expect that I am going to be able to do this. It’s too hard.’ But he wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. I’ve given disclaimers before, but never this much.”

So if her performance is dire at least we can’t accuse her of her not having warned us.
