Almost twenty-one years on from Kenneth Branagh’s poorly received adaptation, 20th Century Fox are having another crack at bringing Mary Shelley’s source to the screen. Encouragingly there’s some major talent on board in the form of Paul McGuigan (who’s helmed four of the six SHERLOCK episodes so far), who will direct from a script by Max Landis (CHRONICLE), so this has the potential to be something quite special. Whether you’ll still be quite so interested in the movie when we tell you Daniel Radcliffe is reportedly close to signing on as Igor depends entirely on how you feel about the former Harry Potter’s acting chops. Opinion here at Starburst HQ ranges from ‘he couldn’t act his way out of a wet paper bag’ (which doesn’t make any sense but we know where they’re coming from), all the way to ‘yeah, he’s ok. I guess.’ You can imagine the heated debates the mere mention of Radcliffe’s name causes! Phew!
But what of his Harry Potter cohorts, you say. Have they been in the news lately? Why yes, they have in fact. Emma Watson has just currently in talks to slip on the glass slipper for CINDERELLA. No, not that panto, times aren't that hard yet. It is in fact a new take on the timeless tale being directed by Kenneth Branagh (ooo, look - it came full circle!).
Rupert Grint meanwhile is starring in SUPER CLYDE, a CBS comedy pilot about a shy clerk who decides to become a superhero.
We'll keep you abreast of the above projects as they develop. And when SUPER CLYDE gets passed up.
