With 20th Century Fox looking to maximise their Marvel properties, there’s been plenty of talk of several spin-off films for X-Men alumni. As well as the main X-MEN franchise, there’s already been two solo Wolverine movies plus a confirmed third Logan-centric film and an X-Force film. Certain characters, such as Deadpool and Gambit, are always talked about as getting their own movies. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, producer Lauren Shuler Donner and writer Simon Kinberg have been talking about these possible spin-offs.

Donner said, “There was a regime at the studio that didn’t see the worth in spin-offs, and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do wright by it. I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”

On how impressed he’s been with Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Kinberg added, “I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is such a crowded ensemble, there’s also much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

At the last count, Donner has been quite vocal about her wish to have Channing Tatum play Gambit at some point. Similarly, the actor has also talked about how he’d be open to taking on the role of Remy LeBeau. On the Deadpool front, Ryan Reynolds has been attached to return as the merc with a mouth ever since he appeared as Wade Wilson back in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.

Before any further spin-offs, Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, featuring Lawrence’s Mystique, is released on 23rd May.
