If you cast your mind back to October, you might recall we were all getting rather worked up at the news that David Cronenberg had developed a sequel* to his excellent 1986 film THE FLY.

He did warn us not to get our hopes up however, “I don’t know if that’s going to really happen, but that has to do with Fox.”

But of course, we didn’t really heed the directors words and now here we are – all bummed out that 20th Century Fox aren’t interested.

“I wrote a script and at the moment Fox is not wanting to do the project”, said Cronenberg today.

Oh.

But wait, note the use of ‘at the moment’!!! Perhaps there is a chance after all! Yeah, probably not. Sad as it is it’s actually much more likely that when the studio decides to pick this project back up, they’ll choose to go with a straight forward reboot.

* 1989’s THE FLY 2 doesn’t count. Not canon, according to Cronenberg.
