Word has been steadily trickling in from Sundance all week about the independent genre films that will make a splash over the coming months. JOHN DIES AT THE END, THE RAID and THE IMPOSTER all went down a storm apparently. The one that is this year’s annual film that had an audience member faint was horror anthology V/H/S which has garnered some brilliant reviews and been labelled as the scariest film for a long time.

V/H/S is made up of five short horror segments filmed in the ‘found footage’ format as if they are on the titular videotape of yesteryear. There is a wraparound thread connecting all five of the stories. Each segment is helmed by a hot young talent in horror, amongst them are Ti West (THE INNKEEPERS) Glenn McQuaid (I SELL THE DEAD) David Bruckner (THE SIGNAL) and Adam Wingard (YOU’RE NEXT).

So one audience member passed out during the film and another had to run out and throw up. Could be something to do with motion sickness perhaps? Magnolia releasing doesn’t see it that way however and have snapped up the distribution rights for US VOD and theatrical release later in 2012. Magnolia have distributed some great genre flicks over the last few years including TROLL HUNTER and HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN. Their output is usually released over here through Optimum Releasing so hopefully we won’t miss out on a release before 2012 is out.
