I’ve honestly never met anyone who went to see Stephen Sommers’ original G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA, but considering that the movie went on to make a not at all too shabby $302m at the box office there must be some folk out there telling porkies. It was a fun but no doubt flawed movie that didn’t deserve the snubbing, especially comparing it alongside the usual summer fluff that we’re subjected to.

As previously reported, Paramount have taken a slightly different approach with this one, overhauling the cast and replacing Sommers with JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER director Jon M. Chu. Yes, really. It also looks like they’ve toned down some of the more cartoony elements which, personally, I thought elevated the original. Then again, it does have sword-wielding ninjas scrapping on the side of a mountain, so it’s not exactly Mike Leigh.
