Thankfully this is not a sequel to LEGENDS OF THE GUARDIANS, the Zack Snyder owl movie nobody saw, this is the equally generically-titled Dreamworks take on the mythos of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Jack Frost and the Tooth Fairy. Based on William Joyce’s popular series of book GUARDIANS OF CHILDHOOD, here they’re portrayed as fierce, secret protectors of the world’s young, voiced by Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Chris Pine and Isla Fisher respectively. With a cast like that Dreamworks clearly mean business. As does Guillermo del Toro, who seems to be on a crusade of late to save us from poor quality, kiddy-pandering animated fare designed solely to shift Happy Meals.

Check out the first trailer below. If you’ve got kids, be thankful they’ll be asking to see this this holiday season and not A VERY MERRY ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS CHRISTMAS or some such rubbish.

RISE OF THE GUARDIANS is released in the UK on November 30th.
