If Freddy Kruger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Pinhead have proved anything in their time maiming, slicing and dicing, it is that you can’t keep a good Horror icon down (be it with fire, knives or studio trouble). So it is with this in mind that we look ahead (or rather look below) at the brand new shadowy poster for Leatherface, the next instalment in the unfathomable and undying Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. Since Tobe Hooper’s landmark 1974 film, which ushered in a new era of filth, depravity and fear in Horror cinema, there have been (now this is where it gets tricky folks): 3 sequels (one being essentially a reboot), a remake, a prequel to said remake and a prequel/sequel/reboot…still with us? The human-skin mask wearing Leatherface certainly must keep a lot of petrol around to keep the saw buzzing for these last 40+ years!

Anyway we are once again going back to the beginning with this upcoming reboot/prequel (lets not get bogged down in that again), after the financially successful but critically panned Texas Chainsaw 3D looked to show the franchise might have reached it’s limit. Leatherface, as the title suggests, looks at the series’ portly, child-minded, serial killer and (as this poster insinuates) will once again be showing his childhood roots (hopefully more effectively than Platinum Dunes’ rather repulsive Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning did back in 2006). For all of you eye-rollers out there, it may indeed be overkill but some promise might be found in the fact that directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (who directed revered slasher, À l’intérieur (Inside) are behind the camera.

Bloody Disgusting caught a butchers (so to speak) of this simple and effective artwork at the EFM (European Film Market) in Berlin and while more details are to be revealed yet, franchise fans can be happy to see the saw being waved around once more. Meanwhile everyone else will just have to hope Millennium Films and Lionsgate have a story worth an 8th outing with the Sawyer family. Can’t be worse than The Next Generation…can it?

Leatherface awaits a confirmed release date but stick with us and we’ll fill you in on the latest buzz.
