After the fantastic job he did with last year’s pseudo-reboot X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, many of us had hoped we’d see Matthew Vaughn return to helm the inevitable sequel. And today we can breath a sigh of relief, with Deadline reporting that Twentieth Century Fox have finally persuaded the KICK-ASS director to come back for round two.

Now if somebody could just persuade him to dump January Drones from the cast we’d be laughin’.

No word on a release date as of yet (give ’em chance!) but writer Simon Kinberg (X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, *shudder*) is currently busy working on the screenplay for returning producer Bryan Singer. Who is no doubt still kicking himself for ditching this franchise for the decidedly dull SUPERMAN RETURNS.

We’ll have more as it develops, but looks like it’s time to start getting excited.
