THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot has garnered some exciting developments behind the camera recently with the announcement of CHRONICLE helmer Josh Trank filling the director’s chair and KICK-ASS director Matthew Vaughn coming on board as a producer. Both announcements have been pretty much universally well received by fanboys the world over, but the latest development may send that good will spiralling into the negative side of the internet forums.

It has been announced that PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WITH ZOMBIES writer Seth Grahame-Smith has been brought on board to polish/re-write the script. Grahame-Smith has had mixed results with his screenwriting gigs so far, having penned last year’s DARK SHADOWS (better than people tell you, but not as good as the trailer) and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER (which… made some money).

There have also been reports from The Hollywood Reporter that the film will be taking a more grounded approach to the FF. ‘Grounded’ seems to be the buzz word of choice for comic book movies in this post-Nolan world, which is odd given the oddly un-grounded realm comic book characters generally live in.

Whether ‘grounded’ means dark and edgy is unknown at this point, but given that the Fantastic Four are one of the generally lighter teams in the Marvel Universe, an approach more akin to AVENGERS ASSEMBLE may be more in keeping than a Nolan approach.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR is pencilled for a US release of March 2015.
