Poor old Taylor Kitsch (above, looking wistfully off into the middle distance). Between BATTLESHIP and JOHN CARTER, the star had a year you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. It’s not unsurprising that he’s now gravitating towards lower budget fare for his projects, with the former FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS star signing up for the lead in EXIT 47, a new horror thriller that sounds very much in the vein of THE HITCHER. EXIT 47’s protagonist finds himself running into a psychotic lawman while driving through the ass-end of nowhere, resulting in a blood-soaked game of cat-and-mouse. Guess who Kitsch is playing? Wrong! Now that the actor will unlikely be bothering the A-list for a little while yet (gotta give the studios enough time to forget the box office take of BATTLESHIP and CARTER), it looks like he’s been freed up to experiment with some less heroic roles and will indeed be playing the film’s nutty villain.

EXIT 47 comes from the mind of PANDORUM writer Travis Milloy, and will be directed by Julian Jarrold (THE GIRL). We’ll have more news as we get it…
