Fresh off his work on the criminally under appreciated DREDD, British screenwriter Alex Garland has landed his first directing gig, and will helm his original sci-fi script EX MACHINA for DNA Films and producers Scott Rudin & Eli Bush. Not to be confused with the comic book property of the same name (also being produced for the big-screen elsewhere), Garland’s story centres on a test subject volunteering to spend a week in the company of an artificially intelligent female robot.

That’s it for details on the $15m production for now, but considering how many great genre scripts Garland has produced over the years (SUNSHINE, NEVER LET ME GO and 28 DAYS LATER… to name but a few) we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on its progress.
