With yesterday’s slightly surprising news that Fede Alvarez’s EVIL DEAD 2 had effectively been scrapped, we’re now getting some clarification from the director as to how things stand… and it appears that the film has most definitely not been cancelled.

Speaking to BloodyDisgusting, Alvarez said that his co-writer Rodo Sayagues’ interview with Gorosito – which claimed that he and Alvarez were off the film, and that it wouldn’t be happening – was a case of “stuff got lost in translation.“ He then added, “Rodo meant we’re not actually makingEVIL DEAD 2 right now because the priority is Sam’s ARMY OF DARKNESS 2. But the plan ofmaking a sequel to our EVIL DEAD is very much alive.”

Phew! That’s a relief.

I’m not usually for remakes, but this year’s Evil Dead was a great little film. Plus, it still seems like the plan is to do Sam Raimi’s ARMY OF DARKNESS 2, then Alvarez’s EVIL DEAD 2, then hopefully a crossover of sorts.

So yeah, nothing to panic about; all is back to normal.
