Evil Dead Review

Now I’m not usually one to give all that much love towards remakes, but that said, I really, really enjoyed Fede Alvarez’s EVIL DEAD earlier this year. In the wake of that film, it was revealed that there was going to be an EVIL DEAD 2, helmed by Alvarez, and also we would be getting an ARMY OF DARKNESS 2, to be helmed by Sam Raimi with Bruce Campbell returning as Ash. In fact, only back in March, Alvarez revealed that work had begun on the script for EVIL DEAD 2. Well, it appears that all of that has apparently fallen apart. In fact, the news is, Alvarez and his co-writer Rodo Sayagues are no longer on board the sequel, and that is now appears to be completely off.

Speaking to Gorosito.TV, Sayagues revealed, “Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. EVIL DEAD 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it, but what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.”

So, there we have it.

In fact, it was only earlier this week that Alvarez took to Twitter to confirm that Raimi will be directing ARMY OF DARKNESS 2. The original plan called for EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS 2 to eventually tie together and have a crossover of sorts. I guess that won’t be happening any time soon.
