Though it’s been bandied around many times before, a remake of John Carpenter’s beloved 1981 sci-fi action flick has thankfully never got off the ground. It took so long in fact, that the rights to the property lapsed, and have languished ignored for years… Until today. That’s right, there’s someone else out there ballsy enough to incur the wrath of millions of pissed-off Plissken fans by putting a reboot into production. Step forward MATRIX godfather Joel Silver and Studio Canal, who plan to bring us an exciting new version of the classic in the form of a trilogy. Scant details are available at this earlier stage, but it’s believed that the screenplay(s) will incorporate an origin story detailing how New York exactly ended up becoming a Maximum Security Prison. Because the ambiguity of that concept was clearly one of the faults with the first film. Sigh.

We’ll have more on ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK as it develops… In the meantime, if it’s happening and we’re powerless to stop it, hit the comments or @STARBURST_MAG and tell us who you would have don the eye-patch!
