It’s been rumoured for months, and even pretty much confirmed by Samuel L. Jackson, but it’s now officially been confirmed by the actress herself. Yes, Elizabeth Olsen will be playing Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, in Joss Whedon’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.

Olsen revealed the news to MTV when she was asked about working with Aaron Taylor-Johnson again, whom she has just finished shooting Gareth Edwards’ GODZILLA with. Taylor-Johnson has already been confirmed as playing Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver in the sequel to Whedon’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE.

Olsen said, “We get to play husband and wife, and we get to play twin brother and sister. It’s also fun because, even though in GODZILLA we play husband and wife, we don’t have a lot of scenes together. I just love him. I love his family. I love his kids. I’m so excited we get to work with each other more and more and to actually work with each other. I think it’s going to be fun.”

Asked if she’s seen any concept art or costume samples for AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, Olsen responded, “No, I just know about it. It’s been talked about, and it’s so fun.”

So, finally, we can put those long-standing rumours to bed. All we’re waiting for now is an official release from Disney/Marvel.

At present, Whedon’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is set for a 1st May, 2015 release.
