Highlander is a curious beast. Appropriately, no matter what comes its way, you just can’t kill it. Series ends on an unpopular season? It gets a spin-off anyway. They make one mediocre film and one appalling one? They come back with news of a reboot starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by the guy who did 28 Weeks Later (Juan Carlos Fresnadillo).

However, due to creative differences, Fresnadillo has now left the project. It’s yet to be announced who his replacement will be (if indeed there will be one – it would be the perfect time for them to quietly drop the film) but Reynolds still appears to be attached to the project for now.

In the end, we suppose that the best we can hope for is that a fine director will be attached to it and that like MacLeod himself, he will overcome his obstacles and strike a decisive blow for success at the box office.

There can be only one. May it be someone with heart, faith and steel.
