With DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES set to hit screens later this year, 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have now announced the director for a third film in their relaunched damn, dirty Apes series. Unsurprisingly, Matt Reeves has been given the gig. Reeves is the director for said DAWN OF… and is expected to go straight into this third film once production is finished on the upcoming sequel. Reeves’ previous credits include CLOVERFIELD and LET ME IN.

After RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES surprised fans and critics alike, a sequel seemed a given, and now there’s to be a third movie in this revitalised new arm of the APES franchise. The 2011 relaunch took a hefty $482 million globally, and it’s hoped that the upcoming DAWN will bring in similarly impressive numbers.

Following on from the events of RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES finds a world of genetically-evolved apes, led by Caesar, looking to put their stamp on the planet. Up against them, we find a small resistance group of scientists battling to save mankind.

Scheduled for an 11th July, 2014 release, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, Jocko Sims and Judy Greer.
