With the success of the exciting Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame released in 2011, we’re happy to report that an origin prequel to his adventures, Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon has completed filming and is in post production with a release for later this year.

As young Dee Renjie arrives in the Imperial Capital to become an officer of the law during the beginning of Empress Wu’s reign he discovers all is not well when a mysterious sea creature begins terrorizing the citizens at night.

Teaming up with the firery-haried Detective Yuchi, they fight off the monster during a procession where the beautiful Yin is about to be scarified to appease the Gods.

But no good deed goes unpunished and Dee is imprisoned by Detective Yuchi, channeling Inspector Lestrade, who is suspicious of his nature and actions.

Dee escapes with the aide of Dr. Shatuo where their investigations (in the vein of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson) lead them the to the truth about the sea dragon’s poisonous curse while uncovering an impending attack on the city by a foreign prince only to discover that a real sea dragon has risen from the depths bent on destroying everything.

Director Tsu Hark is at the helm so you know we’ll have plenty of action and an entertaining story to anticipate!
