With CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER released in April, Variety is reporting that Marvel Studios has already set their sights on a director(s) for a third Cap-centric movie.

Yep, in case you hadn’t guessed it, Anthony and Joe Russo are currently in talks with Marvel and Disney to helm CAPTAIN AMERICA 3. The Russo brothers are currently overseeing CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, and the studio is said to be so impressed that they want the pair back for another Cap movie.

At this stage, nothing has been agreed yet. It’s believed that the serious talks won’t begin until after THE WINTER SOLDIER is released, although the Russos are currently looking at possible directions to take a third CAPTAIN AMERICA. Chris Evans is also expected to return as Captain America in any follow-up picture.

In related news, Marvel has announced that we’ll be getting a prelude comic that will lead up to the events of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. The story will focus on Cap, Black Widow and Agent Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, as they hunt down the Zodiac device for S.H.I.E.L.D. The story has been written by Peter David with art by Rock-He Kim. Discussing the story, David said, “They know what S.H.I.E.L.D. has told them: that they’re looking for the Zodiac, but they know little to nothing about it. To the Black Widow and Rumlow, that’s fine. They’re okay with doing what they’re told. Cap, however, is way more suspicious and wants a clearer idea of what’s going on, and is annoyed that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t big on being forthcoming.”

Given that THE WINTER SOLDIER is set to feature Cap questioning certain elements of S.H.I.E.L.D., this ties in nicely.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is released on 4th April.
