Some people might say that there are enough superhero and comic book movies. They might say that the cinematic schedule is at risk of asphyxiating itself on the sheer volume of spandex.

But they aren’t the people who make all those important ‘decision’ things.

So we’ve had a whole lot of BATMAN, a cheeky bit of SUPERMAN (and the oncoming SUPERBAT VS MANMAN) but that’s not enough for the DC Comics overlords.

No, AQUAMAN is the new priority, DC’s creative officer Geoff Johns revealed to Variety.

With the JUSTICE LEAGUE a very obvious target for WB, making moves towards Atlantis certainly makes sense. Johns talked about the announced plans for a DVD animated AQUAMAN tale as his own three-year comic-book revitilisation of the Fishy King approaches its conclusion. Amongst the discussion of the character’s flaws & legacy and DC’s efforts at forcing its mascot characters into literally every facet of our lives (there’s Batman toilet paper out there, did you know that?) there was the obligatory movie hint:

“There is no doubt in my mind that is one of the most well-known characters among super-heroes, and in popular culture,” said Johns. When talking about the potential for an ocean-specific film, he added “we are finding new areas in the ocean every day. It’s as alien as going to outer space.”

So far, so James Cameron. Here’s hoping for an Aquaman cameo in AVATAR 8 when it releases next century.
