Rise of the Planet of the Apes, released in 2011, was not only surprisingly good (one of our contenders for best movie of the year, in fact – we went bananas for it… sorry) it also erased those terrible memories of Tim Burton’s lame 2001 ‘reimagining’ of Fox’s legendary Apes franchise. The sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Matt (Cloverfield) Reeves (taking over from Rise‘s Rupert Wyatt), is now well into production with a May 2014 release date expected. The cast includes Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Jason Clarke with Andy Serkis back on motion-capture duties as Caesar the talking chimp. Just announced as joining the cast are Toby Kebbell (War Horse, Wrath of the Titans) and Enrique Murciano (TV‘s Without a Trace and CSI:Crime Scene Investigation). Even more excitingly, Fox have released an enticing new plot summary just to whet our simian-starved curiosity…

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Impatient Starburst staff will while away the time waiting for this one by swinging from tyres hanging from trees and flinging our own excrement at one another. On second thoughts, perhaps we won’t…
