Universal Pictures have hired uber-producer Joe Roth to shepherd their recent high-profile acquisition of Laini Taylor’s award-winning YA fantasy novel DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE to the big screen. Roth has previously ushered in some huge movies, including such hits as Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND and this year’s SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN.

For those unfamiliar, DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE tells the tale of Karou, a seventeen-year-old girl raised by mysterious creatures. Karou travels the world collecting human teeth for them (as to what they do with them, that would be telling), and it’s on these travels when she enters a forbidden romance with a warrior angel named Akiva. As is common these days, it’s the first in a trilogy, with the second book DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT released last November.

Guess that means the third book with be split into two movies if this first one is a hit.

It’s early days yet, so that’s your lot information-wise, but expect more news to drop soon as Roth gets things rolling. While you wait, if you haven’t read the book yet, grab yourself a copy of the book below…
