And here’s us thinking we were innuendoed out after all those PACIFIC RIM gags! Turns out it’s almost impossible to write a headline regarding Del Toro’s upcoming horror film without making it sound vaguely dirty too. Anyway…

Just a day on from the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch in an unspecified role, Del Toro has added another major talent to his new directorial outing in the form of the Oscar-nominated Jessica Chastain, who recently starred in MAMA (above), which he produced. Details of the movie are still under wraps, but the filmmaker has in the past described it as a “ghost story/gothic romance”.

Del Toro developed the script alongside veteran screenwriter Matthew Robbins (who was previously responsible for the likes of *BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED and DRAGONSLAYER, and has also worked with Guillermo in the past providing the script for MIMIC, and the yet-to-be produced PINOCCHIO) and UK playwright Lucinda Coxon. Other cast members already confirmed are Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam, who must have thoroughly enjoyed his PACIFIC RIM job* to return to Guillermo’s employ so soon.

*Ok, that’s the last time we make that joke, promise.

More as CRIMSON PEAK develops…

PACIFIC RIM opens in UK cinemas July 12th.
