It

Earlier this year we heard more talk (as there has been for years now) that the dream-bothering Pennywise the Clown (played in the infamous 1990s TV miniseries by Tim Curry) may be returning to screens, in a new two-film adaptation of Stephen King’s
It, with True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga in talks to direct. Well it is now confirmed by producer Dan Lin (who was in conversation with Vulture) that It is his next project and that the film will be split in two halves (as the miniseries was), with Fukunaga directing (at least the first half, he may co-write the second) and that the film is set to start shooting this upcoming summer! In the info-packed interview Lin said:

The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot,” said Lin. “Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it.”

Then later saying that “The book is so epic that we couldn’t tell it all in one movie and service the characters with enough depth,” So, like the first screen adaptation, we can wager the first film will concern itself with the characters’ childhood and how they are haunted by It. The second will concern them overcoming their fears, as adults, and fighting back. However the most promising piece of news might not be these developments so much as author Stephen King’s reaction to them. Not averse to sharing his opinion (with very strong words if necessary), Lin confirmed that King is in full support of the project, stating:

The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing,” He continued, “We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.’ So that was really gratifying.”

Sounds promising so far, lets see if this new screen adaptation can expand the mythos and lingering quality of King’s infamous tale. We’ll be sure to bring you up to speed on any developments regarding this new two-film version of It.
