In one of the worst kept secrets of recent months, it’s now being confirmed by Vulture that Peter Dinklage will indeed be playing Bolivar Trask in Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Trask is responsible for creating the mutant-hunting Sentinels. As well as Dinklage’s role being revealed, there’s also news that Josh Helman will actually be playing a young version of William Stryker. Stryker has appeared previously on screen, being played by Brian Cox in X2: X-MEN UNITED and by Danny Huston in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.

As well as character details, the site is also reporting on the official plot of the film. Whilst those familiar with the DAYS OF FUTURE PAST comic book arc will have an idea of what to expect, here’s what we’re apparently going to get.

“Ellen Page returns as Kitty from the Brett Ratner-directed X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, but this time she uses her powers to send Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine back into the past, where he encounters the younger mutants played by James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender. However, something bad happens to Kitty during the time-travel trance, and while Wolverine is still under her spell, the other X-Men must race to find a mutant who can siphon Kitty’s powers and bring their friend back to the future.”

It most definitely seems to have taken a little bit of creative licence in terms of following the original, but that may not necessarily be a bad thing. In the original comic book arc, Kitty Pryde basically sends her mind back in time to her younger self in order to warn her of what atrocities the world will come to face. Obviously with this being a modern X-film, it’s only to be expected that it will be Wolverine-heavy.

Forming quite the ensemble cast, the film sees James McAvoy as the younger Professor X, Patrick Stewart as the older Professor X, Michael Fassbender as the younger Magneto, Ian McKellen as the older Magneto, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Halle Berry as Storm, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Daniel Cudmore as Colossus, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Fan Binbing as Blink and Lucas Till as Havok. It also seems as if Omar Sy will be playing Bishop and Booboo Stewart will be playing Warpath, with an as yet unconfirmed role for Adan Canto. There are also strong reports that James Marsden will be returning as Cyclops.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be released on 23rd May, 2014.
