News on Kevin Smith’s final film CLERKS III has been slim of late, with the last piece of news being a photo by Smith of the cover of his first draft screenplay. That was until last week’s episode of Smith’s Batman podcast – FAT MAN ON BATMAN, in which he cast himself a comic book legend for the film.

Smith’s special guest on that particular episode was Stan “The Man” Lee, godfather of Marvel and king of the comic movie cameo. Lee was on the podcast talking about his friendship with Batman creator Bob Kane (amongst other things) when the conversation got round to Lee’s appearance in Smith’s 1995 film MALLRATS.

Lee jokingly bemoaned the fact that Smith had not had him back for a film since (although he was also at Smith’s house to record a voice cameo for the upcoming JAY & SILENT BOB’S SUPER GROOVY CARTOON MOVIE) to which Smith responded by telling Lee that there was a part in CLERKS III for him if he wanted it.

Whilst Lee accepted the part on the podcast, it is worth noting that his involvement isn’t technically legally binding yet, but Lee always seems to be a man of his word, so it’s probably safe to assume that he will be appearing in the film in some form.
