Max Landis couldn’t have wished for a better movie debut than found footage superpower pic CHRONICLE, and we were much pleased when it was announced earlier in the year that he will return to script its sequel for Fox. Having ended how it did, the story is wide open for further exploration into the mysteries of the macguffin, and just what lead character Matt would go on to do with his newfound abilities now that he’s grown out of dicking around with ‘em. And of course there’s still the fact they might have only scratched the surface on just what these powers now make them capable of. Ressurection perhaps? Most likely. Anyway, all that might never be explored if the following proves true, for it seems Landis’ bosses are less than pleased with the script he’s turned in. Father John Landis, perhaps unwisely, let the following slip in an interview with The Playlist…

“ wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.”

It will be bitterly disappointing if Fox get their way and serve up the same formula all over again – another batch of kids get exposed to the same magic glowy thing, learn to levitate, act like idiots until one of them gets hurt, etc etc. Fingers crossed they see sense.

Stay tuned for more developments on CHRONICLE 2, we’ll be watching this with great interest…
