Now this may just be us playing Poirot, but it appears that Chewbacca may be a part of J.J. Abrams’ STAR WARS: EPISODE VII.

Peter Mayhew, who happens to be the man who played Chewie over the years, was originally scheduled to appear at Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas later this year. Sadly for those attending, the actor has had to pull out of his appearance. A tweet from the event read, “We regret to announce that Peter Mayhew is cancelling his appearance at Comicpalooza this year due to filming.”

An actor filming? Crazy idea, right? Well given that Mayhew literally acts in absolutely nothing these days, that Comicpalooza is held on 23rd – 26th May, and that EPISODE VII has been confirmed to start shooting in May, are we right to presume that Mayhew is going to be involved in the filming of EPISODE VII, dusting of the Wookiee suit and bringing Chewbacca out of storage? Is this case of 2+2 = 37 or are we actually on to something?

Given that Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia are all set to reappear, it only seems logical that everyone’s favourite hairy chess player would also be back. Remember, let the Wookiee win.

At present, STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is scheduled for an 18th December, 2015 release.
