Continuing on from where his father David left off, Brandon Cronenberg is bringing horror fans back to the world of body horror with his debut film ANTIVIRAL.

If you missed us talking it up last month, here’s the newly released official synopsis:

‘Antiviral’ follows Syd March, an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion – for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.

And here’s the very first image from the film, featuring Caleb Landry Jones (the greasy one from X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) staring at some funky lookin’ test tubes…

ANTIVIRAL also stars Sarah Gadon as Hannah Geist, Malcolm McDowell, Douglas Smith, Matt Watts and James Cade. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of them (McDowell aside), neither had we until we checked their IMDb pages (and to be frank we’re still not sure who they are). Hopefully this will be the movie to break them. It certainly sounds like promising stuff.

Expect a late 2012 release.
