It was previously here that M. Night Shyamalan would be teaming up with Will and Jaden Smith for a science fiction epic entitled ONE THOUSAND A.E. Well now the title has been shortened to just AFTER EARTH and a few more are joining the cast…

Zoe Kravitz (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) and Sophie Okonedo (HOTEL RWANDA) will star alongside the richest father-son double act in the world in a story of a young boy and his father crash landing on Earth 1000 years after humanity has abandoned the planet.

More details have also emerged regarding the story, with Papa Smith apparently playing the hero whilst his son is a failure as a warrior. After they crash however, the son must come to the aid of his father and y’know become a man and all that. Kravitz will play Smith’s daughter and Okonedo his wife most likely in flashback or near the start.

The screenplay is by talented duo Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI) and Stephen Gaghan (TRAFFIC) and will start shooting early 2012 for a summer 2013 release. Will this be the film to get Shyamalan out of his slump? Since THE HAPPENING it’s like the guy just forgot how to direct a movie. At least he is not writing the screenplay so surely he cannot mess this one up can he?
