Sometimes you just can’t beat a creepy-ass doll and this notion seems to be the main pushing factor behind the upcoming Annabelle. The film is a spin-off to last year’s Horror hit The Conjuring, which opened with the story of scary possessed doll Annabelle (based on a real-life Warren case also). She was not the narrative focus but sure as hell freaked many folk out; so last November’s announcement of a spin-off was not enormously surprising. However, one aspect that is somewhat surprising is the lower scaled cast and crew details that have just been released (via Variety) about this upcoming dreaded dolly picture.

The stars of The Conjuring will not be returning to this film and nor will director James Wan. Instead a smaller named cast will be taking over, so far it has been announced Annabelle Wallis (The Tudors and X-Men: First Class) and Ward Horton (The Wolf of Wall Street) will star in the film and John Leonetti (cinematographer on The Conjuring) will direct, while Swamp Devil’s Gary Dauberman’s will be on scripting duties. Some may have mixed feelings about this but hopefully a worthwhile story can back up the return of this horrid little mare. As Billy the Puppet (The Saw series), Blade (The Puppet Master series) and Chucky (The Child’s Play series) have shown, a truly horrifying doll can make for great Horror longevity, so should Annabelle conjure up more fear, she may be haunting us again some time soon.

Annabelle is currently scheduled to shoot on the 27th of January 2014 and will be released sometime this coming year (probably around Halloween, just a guess). The film is one of three The Conjuring spin-offs in development and that is not counting the official The Conjuring sequel that is currently in development. Scary how many sequels can spill from one film.
