Carrie

The Kimberly Peirce CARRIE remake continues to get classier with each new update – Judy Greer (left) and Portia Doubleday (right) have now joined the cast.

Judy Greer will be very familiar to fans of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (“say goodbye to THESE!”) as George Bluth’s conniving secretary Kitty, and Doubleday is… erm, one second… there’s somebody at the door … false alarm, nobody there… Doubleday is well known for her role in comedy classic BIG MOMMAS: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON. Ahhh, Martin. Your old lady fat suit antics doth truly slay us.

Ok, so Greer’s clearly the casting coup here, and will really get to show a different side of herself in the role of the teacher Carrie White confides in over her surprise visit from Aunt Floe. Doubleday will play lead bully Chris Hargensen, originally played by Nancy Allen in De Palma’s 1976 original.

As regular readers will already know, the two join Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie and Julianne Moore as her abusive mother.

What with the quality surrounding this and the upcoming ROBOCOP reboot, it seems Hollywood might have learned that simply trading on the legacy of their originals don’t work – they need to be as good as they can possibly be if they’re going to be taken seriously. If the reboot/remake culture is here to stay (it is), we might as well cheer on the ones that are at least trying.

CARRIE will be released sometime in 2013.
