Fan of the blue-skinned, green-haired mullet look? Well, you may just find this story of interest then.

We first reported on this project all the way back in July 2012, but The Hollywood Reporter are now claiming that Sony Pictures is currently in final negotiations to obtain the rights for a certain Captain Planet. Anyone of a particular age will remember the ‘90s CAPTAIN PLANET AND THE PLANETEERS cartoon series (yes, cartoon series, not animated series). Sony’s plan is to develop a live-action movie version of the series. The project will be overseen be Andrea Giannetti.

The original CAPTAIN PLANET AND PLANETEERS series first aired in 1990, focusing on a group of teenagers who could combine their elemental powers to summon Captain Planet. The Captain was an environmental superhero who would seek to fight any eco-villains that were looking to harm the planet.

Again, those of a certain age may also remember the ‘awesome at the time’ computer game on the Commodore Amiga. I’m not quite sure just how ‘awesome’ that game would be now if revisited, but a generation whittled their days away on the title back in the day.

Here’s hoping this revival of the Captain Planet character brings back the mullet.
