Hasbro/Platinum Dunes have resurrected their long-in-development QUIJA flick, and they’ve tasked one of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER’s head writers to help bring their vision back from the dead and into our multiplexes.

Marti Noxon was Joss Whedon’s chief writer on the beloved show (even handing her the reigns of season 6 when he was swamped with FIREFLY & ANGEL), and has since become an in demand feature writer, most recently penning FRIGHT NIGHT 3D.

This project, which was once in the hands of McG (now that’s scary!) is oddly described as a MUMMY-style all audience action adventure, telling the tale of a family accidentally unleashing something nasty while mucking about with the titular board game (didn’t they see THE EXORCIST?!).

It’s a smart choice choosing Noxon, and we applaud Platinum Dunes for actually making something original for a change (well, maybe not original per se, but at least it gives us a break from their constant remakes), but we can’t help be troubled by the direction in tone. Surely this is a perfect opportunity for some serious, adult horror?

We’ll have more on this as it develops…
