Warner Bros. have revealed plans to adapt Homer’s The Odyssey for the big screen. Ordinarily Starburst wouldn’t bother reporting on this kind of news, except the studio have come up with a cunning plan to maximize its box office potential. No, they’re not adding vampires (note to self: write that spec script immediately), they’re setting it in space! D’oh!

New kid on the block James DiLapo has been drafted in to write the project… of which exact details are currently nonexistent. We’ll give you a shout as soon as something else happens.

Meanwhile, Rob Liefeld’s comic book The Godyssey has also just been picked up for a Hollywood adaptation by producers Todd Garner (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) and Brooklyn Weaver (The Number 23). If you’re unfamiliar with the Image release, the title tells the tale of Gods Zeus, Buddha, Ra and Pangu fighting for the survival of mankind against a whole mess of “fallen Gods”. Where’s Jesus from that list? Good question. Although featured in the early comics, Liefeld has already gone on record and said the wise one will not appear. Given the grief Kevin Smith got over attempting to genre-fi Christianity in Dogma, it’s probably safer if he sat this one out.

We’ll have more on both projects as they develop…
