The sequel that nobody ever wanted is well under way apparently, because what does Hollywood do better than crush the hopes and dreams of millions?

Yep, the long gestating sequel to Ridley Scott’s timeless, genre-defining masterpiece BLADE RUNNER has been allocated a writer – or re-writer as the case may be – setting it out on the road to production.

Yay?

Alcon entertainment – who have been working on the project since acquiring the necessary rights back in 2011 – have announced that Michael Green (GREEN LANTERN) has been in talks to rewrite the script of Hampton Fancher, the scriber of the 1982 original.

This follows on from Ridley Scott’s confirmation that he will be back to direct the sequel. That also happened back in 2011 however, so judging by the current rate of production Sir Ridders may need a Zimmer frame by the time he has the chance to shout ‘action!’, especially considering the metric tonne of production work he has on the horizon.

All that’s known about the mysterious follow-up thus far is that it’s set several years after the first film concluded in that iconic dystopian L.A.

So the original director and the original writer are back in varying degrees, that has to count for something, right?

Then again… PROMETHEUS…
