With the Internet having just about stabilised after the recent announcement of Ben Affleck cast as Batman, Affleck’s long-time bestest pal, Matt Damon, has been speaking to the Times of India about the decision.

The ELYSIUM star said, “I think it will be great. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the Internet. I just think it’s kind of funny. He’s not playing King Lear. It’s Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw ARGO or THE TOWN, it’s way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman. Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that.”

In fairness, recent showings show that Batman needs more than just a gruff voice. He apparently needs a lisp and a far-too-pointy chin.

With online fanboys wasting no time in mocking up pictures of Damon as Robin to Affleck’s Caped Crusader, the actor added, “I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman. It’s safe to say I won’t be Robin.”

At present, the MAN OF STEEL sequel – has it been officially titled BATMAN VS SUPERMAN or SUPERMAN VS BATMAN yet? – is set for a summer 2015 release, with production expect to begin early next year.
