It’s been rumoured for months, but it’s now finally official: Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, in Joss Whedon’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.

The Wrap has the scoop on the casting, with Taylor-Johnson to play the silver-haired speedster. It also still seems that Elizabeth Olsen is the current front-runner to play Quicksilver’s sister Wanda, aka the Scarlet Witch, also that’s still not official.

The brother-sister combo are the only characters at present that can be used in both Disney/Marvel Studios’ pictures and also in 20th Century Fox’s Marvel films. With that in mind, beforeAVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is here, the character of Quicksilver will appear in Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, where he’ll be played by AMERICAN HORROR STORY’s Evan Peters.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is currently planned for a 1st May, 2015 release.
