It’s been a month since the rumours of a second villain joining James Spader’s Ultron in the AVENGERS sequel, and now confirmation of Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker’s appearance has been announced along with an actor who will be playing the HYDRA leader.

Currently appearing as Van Helsing in NBC’s DRACULA, Thomas Kretschmann (above left) is the actor to play Baron Von Strucker (right) in Joss Whedon’s star studded sequel. According to reports Kretschmann’s character will play a pivotal role at the beginning of the film in introducing our two new Avengers Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

Although reports seem to suggest that Thomas Kretschmann’s role in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is only minor at the beginning of the film to spur the narrative on towards an Ultron show down, Kretschmann has been signed on for several future Marvel projects. This hints at a Quicksilver/ Scarlet Witch solo project, or perhaps HYDRA’s forces will be growing strong in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER?

Kretschmann’s Baron Von Strucker will be joining new additions Ultron (James Spader), Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) as well as the original cast of AVENGERS: ASSEMBLE in AVENGERS: THE AGE OF ULTRON. The sequel will hit our cinemas May 1, 2015.
