After the mega success of the film worldwide and reports of viewers having withdrawal from the immersive 3D planet Pandora, a sequel to AVATAR was inevitable. James Cameron revealed that there would be an AVATAR 2 and even 3. Last we heard Cameron was struggling with the screenplays and the pressure of such an eagerly awaited follow up. There was also word that he was yet again developing new technology so that the film could be shot in the oceans of Pandora.

With the forthcoming release of TITANIC in 3D ramping up publicity, producer Jon Landau revealed that AVATAR 2 was still four years away. Which means that we won’t get to see the film before 2016!

Apparently 2 and 3 will be filmed back to back and released within 6 months to a year of each other. Cameron likes to take his time with sequels. It was seven years between THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2 and we have never even seen TRUE LIES 2 which was often rumoured to be happening. If he is developing technology further to give us an even more immersive experience then surely this can only be a good thing.
