You may or may not remember the original KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, an oddball cult horror comedy from 1988. This bizarre film followed an invasion of aliens from outer space that were intent on harvesting the human race for food. The mad geniuses behind this film were the animation artists the Chiodo Brothers and apart from some effects work and attempts to make a film based on THE FABULOUS FURRY FREAK BROTHERS it’s been fairly quiet from their camp since the first movie.

We first heard rumblings of this project back in June, but now it seems the sequel/remake is finally set to begin production some time in 2012. This new film has been dubbed a “requel” (a cross between a sequel and a remake) by the Chiodo brothers themselves. It’s a polite way of saying it’s a remake that fans of the original will also get some enjoyment from. Funding is now in place and the only snag at the moment seems to be getting a distributor, which they’ll need before shooting can begin.

Actor Grant Cramer from the original movie is apparently back on board again and there is a Facebook page all set up for the film entitled RETURN OF THE KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE which of course will be in 3D.

To be honest the first one is a lot of fun, so this is one reboot we’re totally on board for.
