In a further sign that we are in fact in end times, Warner Bros has greenlit a LEGO movie for release in 2014. Yes Hollywood really is so desperate for known commodities that they will now gladly make a film based on colourful bricks that never had any kind of narrative attached to them. Fuzzy Felt the movie and Stickle Bricks should be picked up by a rival studio any day now.

The LEGO film will be directed by the folks behind CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and will be animated by Australian company Animal Logic. The film will take place in an “immersive all-Lego environment” and comprised of 80% authentic actual Lego bricks. Well that’s a relief then.

An official announcement is expected next week for the start of production but the intention is to make a ‘super charged stop motion’ film with the popular toys. I haven’t seen CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS yet but I hear good things. Lord and Miller are currently in post production on 21 JUMP STREET, another well known property. Are things really so bad that we are now scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas like a LEGO movie? Is there really nobody left with a great original idea?
