After months of speculation, Tom Cruise is finally *holds up fingers approximately 1cm apart* thiiiis close to signing on the dotted line to play the lead in BOURNE IDENTITY director Doug Liman’s adaptation of the acclaimed Japanese sci-fi novel ALL YOU NEED IS KILL.

For those that haven’t followed the story, Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s ALL YOU NEED IS KILL tells the tale of a soldier during one of those pesky alien invasions we’re always having. Unfortunately, our protagonist perishes soon on in the story. Bit of a downer, sure – but wait, there’s a twist. The soldier finds himself waking up… and it’s the day before his death (like the later scenes in GROUNDHOG DAY where Bill Murray gets all depressed and tops himself). Forced once again into battle, the soldier suffers the exact same fate, and ultimately finds himself back where he began. It’s a time loop see! Like in GROUNDHOG DAY. Over time our hero becomes ever more skilled, and sets out to change the outcome and break the cycle. Y’know, like the end of GROUNDHOG DAY. Or SOURCE CODE.

Ok, we’ll admit we’re not totally sold on the concept, but in Liman’s hands this could be an exciting spin on a well-worn premise.

We’ll have more on this as it develops…

Fan of the source material? Could this make a great film, or is the concept just a little too ‘seen-it-all-before’? Let us know in the Comments below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
