As far as I am concerned, Alex Proyas gets a lifetime pass for THE CROW and DARK CITY, I also happen to think that KNOWING is sorely underrated. Recently he hasn’t had an easy time of it with DRACULA: YEAR ZERO stalling and PARADISE LOST having the plug pulled due to its escalating budget. Proyas has since picked up another directorial assignment with Robert Heinlein story THE UNPLEASANT PROFESSION OF JONATHAN HOAG and is now in talks to direct something called GODS OF EGYPT for the producers of WRATH OF THE TITANS.

GODS OF EGYPT is about a thief who goes on an epic quest through the land of the pyramids and pharaohs with the help of a god and a goddess. Proyas is co-writing the screenplay with Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. With its supernatural elements and adventure slant this sounds like a mixture of IMMORTALS and PRINCE OF PERSIA.

It’s not clear if GODS OF EGYPT will go ahead before JONATHAN HOAG or if that is the project that is further along in development and set to go first. Whichever film ends up first out of the gate it will just be good to have Proyas back in the director chair.
