Yesterday brought word that ANCHORMAN’s Adam McKay was in advanced talks with Marvel Studios to take over from Edgar Wright on the ANT-MAN directing gig. So advanced were said talks, it was claimed that the studio had actually offered the director the job.

Today brings word from The Hollywood Reporter that McKay was indeed offered the job but he has actually turned it down. To add further to this, McKay himself took to Twitter to say, “And yes, met w/Marvel. Kirby & Lee r my Lennon Mccartney so it was awesome. But I have other projects I’m committed to. Not sure it can work.”

With McKay now seemingly ruled out, that still leaves a void to fill. Marvel and Disney’s other contenders for the job were said to be DODGEBALL’s Rawson Marshall Thurber and ZOMBIELAND’s Ruben Fleischer. Will they now be back in the frame? We guess we’ll have to wait and see what develops over the next few days.

Regardless of who directs, the cast of ANT-MAN currently comprises of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and unknown roles for Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson and Corey Stoll. Set to kick-off Marvel’s Phase Three of films, ANT-MAN is currently set for a 17th July, 2015 release.
