Move over, Dafoe! Following on from the recent reports that Paul Giamatti might be donning the crazy costume as The Rhino, comes some more encouraging casting news for Marc Webb’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN sequel. Chris Cooper, fresh from terrorising the Muppets as Tex Richman in last year’s franchise revival, has signed on to play Norman Osborn, the Oscorp head who will eventually go on to be The Green Goblin. Chances of the Goblin showing up in the sequel are pretty slim (unless it plays out as a post credits sting), as we’ve already got The Rhino and Electro kicking about, and as Sony has learnt in the past, the more villains do not a merrier movie make.

We’ll have more info as it develops. In the meantime, why not check out these recent pap shots of Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson if you missed them yesterday. (Is it just us, or does she look a teensy bit too young for Mr. Garfield?)…

Official Synopsis:

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
